A deal with a UK-based firm to provide hot schools meals in Jersey primary schools has been signed.
Education Minister Catherine Curtis has signed a contract with Apetito, which already supplies the majority of government provided primary schools.
The firm will provide hot school meals, develop menus, produce meals, ensure nutritional compliance and provide associated catering services.
Apetito was chosen following an open and compliant procurement process in line with Government of Jersey requirements.
This included an evaluation of quality, service delivery arrangents, technical capability, capacity, sustainability and price.
The successful firm demonstrated it had a clear ability to meet nutritional and logistical requirements of the School Food Programme, while delivering meals at scale.
Valley Foods, which has an existing contract with Government, will supply fresh fruit to primary school as fruit replaces a dessert option twice a week from this academic year.
This is in line with the Primary Schools Meals Evaluation which found parents wanting schools to increase their provision of fruit, reduced sugar and better nutritional balance in school meals.
