After a motion of no confidence was lodged against the island’s leading Policy and Resources Committee after their GST plan flopped, Deputy Mark Helyar decided to hand in his notice before the vote.

That vote resulted in the remaining members of P&R – helmed by Chief Minister Deputy Peter Ferbrache – losing their jobs, and previous Chief Minister Lyndon Trott returning to the top political spot.

Deputy Helyar – who was formerly the island’s Treasury lead – now moves to the back benches and has been announced as a new presenter on Riduna Radio, a station based in Alderney.

In a post online Riduna Radio said: “Mark has always expressed his keen interest in broadcasting and now with a little more time on his hands, he is going to be giving it a go.”

Mark’s first show will be this coming Thursday (21 December) where he’ll be taking over the breakfast show with his son.
