A local GP surgery has reassured patients that their “personal health information remains completely safe” after a company email account was compromised by a cyber attack.

Cleveland Clinic, which has three surgeries located in St Helier and St Brelade, confirmed to Express that the breach occurred on Monday 17 February.

This led to unauthorised emails being sent to contacts in the clinic’s address book.

The GP surgery said that the incident was “swiftly contained” and its email system has now been “fully secured”.

A statement to patients explained that all medical records are stored on a separate clinical system which was not affected by the attack.

The statement read: “Importantly, we want to emphasise that all medical records are stored on a separate, secure clinical system that was unaffected by this incident.

“Your personal health information remains completely safe.

“Similarly, our accounts system is unaffected, and no personal financial information has been accessed.”

Cleveland Clinic added that it is working with the Jersey Office of the Information Commissioner, police, and government authorities to investigate the incident.

The surgery has also temporarily suspended email communications while its IT team addresses the situation, according to its website.

Patients who receive any emails from the surgery containing links are advised not to click on them and to delete the messages immediately.

Cleveland Clinic said it takes the security and privacy of patients “very seriously” and remains “committed to ensuring that we continue to provide you with the highest level of care”.
