Sixth form students from Highlands College celebrated in style as they said farewell to their teachers and friends at the annual G4S Highlands College 6th Form Prize Giving Ceremony and Festival of Celebration 2019.

The event was split up into two celebratory events for the Class of 2019.

The Prize Giving Ceremony, a formal occasion held in the Concert Hall, was attended by over 250 guests including parents, students, the governing body, staff, distinguished guests and His Excellency, The Lieutenant-Governor and Lady Dalton.

In total, 18 awards were distributed during the ceremony, which included a group of newly appointed Highlands College Ambassadors. The winners were:

  • G4S Highlands College Endeavour for English Award – Eric Goncalves
  • G4S Highlands College Endeavour for Maths Award – Nicola Logan
  • Highlands College Endeavour Award for English as a a Second Language – Bruan Ferreira
  • ASL Recruitment Highlands College Flying Start Award – Thomas Garnier
  • Franz Schindler Award for Outstanding Contribution to the Community – Ngatendwe Katsande
  • Franz Schindler Award for Outstanding Contribution to the College – Christina Boleat
  • Katarina Setubal Award – Isobel Kelly
  • Highlands College Award for Best Access Student – Humanities – Yann Mash
  • Highlands College Award for Best Access Student – Science – Chloe De La Cloche
  • The Glass Rainbow Trust – The Henry Bosdet Prize for Life Drawing – Kurt Balleine
  • Highlands College Students’ Choice Award – Matthew Barraths
  • Highlands College JPQ Student of the Year – Honor Merchant
  • Waitrose Jersey, Highlands College Student Ambassador of the Year Award – Charlie De La Cour
  • Logicalis Highlands College Award for Outstanding Academic Achievement – Petra Felgueiras
  • Sanne Highlands College Student of the Year Award – Diogo Abreu
  • G4S Secure Solutions (Jersey) Limited Award for Most Improved – Reece Le Moine
  • MasonBreese Award for Enterprise

“All of our students are winners of course and this prize-giving is about recognising those students who have gone that extra mile and who, in the view of their tutors, deserve an extra special mention,” Principal, Steve Lewis, said.

“Celebrating the success and achievements of students graduating from Highlands is the highlight of every year. 2019 is a bumper year with over 550 students going on to University or directly into work.”

After the ceremony, hundreds of students and staff celebrated with their own private festival held on the College Lawn.

The event included live music provided by Lauren Ivy and the Engine, Monty Taft, Samuel Walwyn, and Zara Mansell, as well as dance music mixed by Reasons Festival DJ John O’Connell.

It also included food, circus shows, a graffiti zone led by Midnight Industries, a ‘farmyard fun zone’ with old fashioned activities, and an outdoor G4S-themed board game, titled ‘Jail Break and Unlock The Safe’.

“The sun shone on Highlands College staff, guests and students in our mini-Glastonbury style end of year party on the lawn,” Mr Lewis said. “The G4S Highlands College 6th Form celebration was an opportunity for guests, staff and students to mark the end of another fantastic year. Everyone promenaded in a relaxed atmosphere listening to bands and taking part in lots of fun activities.”
