Hundreds of runners followed a route through some of a former police officer’s favourite places this weekend as they raised thousands of pounds for Jersey Hospice Care in his memory.

The annual Hospice 10km was held on Sunday 23 August in memory of footballer Jayson Lee, who died while playing for St John’s FC in 2009.

The course passed Mr Lee’s former home and school, Le Hocq Slip, and his final resting place.

His family organised the event for 16 years following his death before handing it over to Jersey Hospice Care in 2024.

The charity has since continued the run under its new name while ensuring Mr Lee’s legacy lives on.

More than £100,000 has been raised since the event first launched. This year’s entry fees and fundraising are still being counted, but organisers hope the final total will exceed £8,000.

Marina Brockbank, community engagement officer at Jersey Hospice Care, said the charity was “so pleased” to have delivered another successful event and to continue working with the Lee family.

She said the sunshine at FB Fields had created “perfect conditions for the runners and a great atmosphere for supporters”.

“The 10km is a run, not a race, so it’s open to all abilities and the community spirit was wonderful,” she said.

“I want to say a massive thank you to everyone who took part and to all of those who supported [the event], including our incredible volunteers and our event sponsor, Titan Wealth.”

Josh Brien was the overall winner and leading male runner, followed by Ewan Pilley in second place and Adam Harris in third.

Francesca Monticelli was the leading female runner, with Rosie Adamson finishing second and Natalie Hodge third.
