The long-awaited results of a seven-week public consultation have revealed strong support for the proposed makeover of Fort Regent.
Just over 6,000 individuals aged 11 and over, including visitors, expressed their opinions on Jersey Development Company’s plans for the iconic island venue.
And the overall public mood is positive.

Published yesterday, the survey results showed broad support for the arms-length construction firm’s plans – which include a rooftop bar, six-screen cinema, indoor climbing wall, a concert hall and a hotel – with around 90% of respondents satisfied with proposals.
It proved the largest and most inclusive public survey ever undertaken in Jersey.
Express took a closer look at the numbers…
The figures
- 94% of 11- to 16-year-olds supported the plans.
- 82% of those aged over 55 also said they were satisfied or very satisfied.
- Respondents with higher household income levels were also more likely to report being “very satisfied” with the suggestions.
- Most people were excited about the proposed concert hall (71%), the six-screen cinema (59%) and ten-pin bowling facilities (46%).
- Students were similarly impressed with what was on offer, with bowling (89%), the cinema (87%), concert hall (87%) and arcade (87%) topping their list of favoured activities.
- 69% of people also agreed that the existing plans would attract more visitors to Jersey.
- Some adult (8%) and student (6%) respondents would like to see a form of water-based amenity such as a swimming pool or water park.
- 8% of people also called for sports and local clubs to be better catered for in any future plans.
- 98% of respondents also said they would like to see improved access to the Fort from town.
There is a strong desire for a new era at the Fort. This vision has been shaped by the community, and it’s encouraging to see such widespread support

Following the report the next phase for the scheme will be the first of three planning applications for official plans, due to be lodged in August, subject to endorsement and the approval of the States Assembly.
That will be followed two months later by further elements of the enabling works.
A final application covering the details of the scheme is due to be submitted next February, after the Fort is cleared and closed by the end of 2025.
Construction could potentially start in April 2026.
