John Alan Le Seelleur (33) died on Thursday 28 May in the intensive care unit after the tractor he was in tumbled, off a côtil in St. Martin.
An inquest, which aims to understand how an individual came by their death, but does not seek to allocate blame, was opened on Friday.
During the short hearing, Relief Coroner Dr Martin Barrett heard a short statement from John Robert Le Seelleur, Mr Le Seelleur’s father, who owned the oyster farm he worked on.

In it, Mr Le Seelleur explained that he was alerted to the accident on Mont des Ormes near his house by neighbours during the afternoon, before heading to the hospital where his son passed away in the evening.
Dr Barrett also heard evidence from Consultant Histopathologist Dr Miklos Perenyei, who carried out a post-mortem examination and said that he was awaiting the results of a toxicology and histopathology report.
Police Coroner’s Officer PC Glen Cleave confirmed that the death was not believed to be suspicious.
Dr Barrett subsequently adjourned the inquest so that Mr Le Seelleur’s funeral can go ahead.
It will resume when the results of Dr Perenyei’s analyses are available.
