A multicultural Jersey church is set to mark Liberation Day weekend with a special service celebrating “the place we all call home”.

Lighthouse Church will hold its annual “Jersey Sunday” service at Hautlieu School on Sunday 10 May, bringing together islanders from a wide range of international backgrounds.

The event will include a talk on Jersey’s faith history, prayers for the island and its future, and personal stories from congregation members about their journeys to Jersey and the impact the island has had on their lives.

Lead pastor Gregg Donaldson said: “It’s important to celebrate Jersey’s Liberation. We are all grateful for the people who shaped the island before us – those who allowed us all to live here in peace and freedom.”

Mr Donaldson added that the non-denominational church’s international make-up made the celebration particularly meaningful.

“As a church that is majority international, there is something really special about the fact that we can all call the same place home,” he said.

“We also take this moment to celebrate the freedom that we have through Christ, which brings us all together from around the world for a common purpose.”

Islanders are invited to attend the service, which begins at 10.30am and will also include children’s and youth groups, followed by Jersey Wonders and ice cream.
