An investigation has been launched into claims of historical abuse at a school in Guernsey.

Men who attended Elizabeth College in the 1970s and 1980s have said they were abused during their time at the school.

The co-educational independent school yesterday announced an “independent, expert-led review” into the “non-recent allegations” so it can “gain a fuller understanding of what happened”.

Elizabeth College issued a statement last night saying that it has received reports about historical abuse at the school.

The fee-paying school said there have been a “number of disclosures” of “non-recent abuse” made in recent months, all “concerning the experiences of former pupils in the 1970s and 1980s”.

Elizabeth College has “commissioned an independent, expert-led review” into the allegations to be led by safeguarding and child protection expert Joanna Nicolas.

It is not a criminal investigation, although Guernsey Police are encouraging anyone who may be affected or has information to come forward and speak to them directly.

Those who would like more information or to participate in the expert-led review are asked to email nonrecentcasesreview@joannanicolas.co.uk.

Anyone who wishes to report a crime should visit the Guernsey Police station or ring 01481 222 222.
