More than £25,000 has been raised for a local dementia charity after a group of Islanders took part in a fundraising trek in Ecuador.
A total of 14 Islanders travelled to the South American country last month to take on a four-day challenge trekking through the ‘Avenue of Volcanoes’.

Tackling high altitudes, steep climbs and long days, the group were raising money for Dementia Jersey – the only charity in the Island that offers dedicated support to individuals and families affected by the condition.
Jacquie Butlin, a participant on the trek said it was “truly unforgettable”.
She said: “It was challenging in all the best ways, pushing me out of my comfort zone while surrounded by the most inspiring group of people.
“To be part of something so meaningful, raising funds for such an important cause, made the experience even more special. It’s a journey I’ll carry with me forever.”
Julia Foley, a dementia advisor at the charity who also took part in the challenge, added: “Stepping out of my comfort zone on the trek led me across the beautiful scenery of Ecuador, sharing life experiences and making wonderful friends along the way. An incredible adventure and inspiration to keep on walking.”
Nadine Jagger, fundraising and communications coordinator at Dementia Jersey, said the charity is “incredibly proud” of the group.
“We’re very grateful for their dedication and generosity in taking on this challenge and raising such a fantastic amount for the charity,” she said.
“All money raised in Jersey stays in Jersey, and we couldn’t do what we do without the support of our community. Thank you to our trekkers and to everyone who sponsored them.”
