The Romanian language was included in the Jersey Eisteddfod competition for the first time this year – with 16 children competing across three different age categories.
The arts competition – which sees children and adult compete in music, speech, drama, dance, performing arts, and creative arts – already includes French and Jèrriais categories, as well as a number of modern languages.
For the first time this year, 16 students between Year 1 and Year 11 competed in the Romanian section on Friday 7 March.
The awards in the three different age categories were named after Romanian writers Ana Blandiana and Mihai Eminescu, as well as the tradition of Mărțișor which is celebrated at the beginning of March.
Entries were judged by Deputy Raluca Kovacs, who was the first Romanian elected to the States Assembly.
“We hope this project continues to grow in the coming years,” she said.
