Published earlier this week, the update to Jersey’s Sea Transport Policy allows the Harbour Master to issue longer permits for both freight and passenger ferry services.
The previous limit for ferry permits was seven years.
The report said that applicants must propose year-round service for both the Northern routes to Portsmouth and Poole, as well as the Southern route to St Malo in France.
The Northern route is described as “of critical strategic importance” as the “main freight supply and logistics link”.
The policy sets out requirements for applicants’ fleet plans, timetables, pricing, risk analysis, sustainability, and financial plans.
It mandates service level standards and compliance with EU passenger rights regulations on all routes.
