Carols, community and Christmas cheer will once again fill the Royal Square this evening, as a coalition of Jersey churches prepares to transform the historic heart of St Helier into a festive gathering place.

Now in its third year, ‘Step into Christmas’ will see 11 local church groups join forces to hold a carol service and an all-day Christmas fayre in the square.

A family-friendly carol service will be taking place today (Thursday) from 6.30pm to 8.30pm. The songs will be accompanied by a live band.

On Saturday (20 December), the ‘Step Into Christmas Village’ will offer festive activities, including a Nativity Grotto and kids’ competitions, as well as hot drinks and snacks free of charge to members of the public.

Christmas is the perfect time to join together

Gregg Donaldson, organiser and lighthouse church pastor

The fayre will take place from 10.30am to 5pm.

Gregg Donaldson, lead organiser of the events and pastor of Lighthouse Church, said: “Jersey is hungry for a big community event that celebrates the true meaning of Christmas, and it’s our privilege to facilitate this.

“Christmas is the perfect time to join together as a community of churches, to
spread joy and hope to the whole Island,” he added.

More information and detailed timings can be found on the event’s Facebook page.
