England netball captain Serena Guthrie received her MBE for her contributions to the sport from Prince Charles at Clarence House yesterday.

It was announced at the end of last year that the former Le Rocquier student was due to receive the Royal accolade.

Posting on social media about the experience, Serena said: “As far as days go, this one was pretty special. Sometimes its days like this which make you reflect on the journey you’ve been on. Can’t stop. Won’t stop. But for now, time to just bottle this day up and celebrate some incredible achievements. Congratulations to all who received their honours today.”

Serena will add the MBE to her impressive horde of awards both locally and nationally. From being crowned the Channel Islands Sports Personality of the Year in 2019, Serena has also been celebrated at the BBC Sports Personality of the Year awards in the team and greatest sporting moment categories.

Meanwhile, the Commonwealth Games gold medallist is fundraising for a foundation to fund community sports programmes for families and children. 

She’s swapping her netball shoes for running trainers this year to run the Bath half marathon and London Marathon, with a fundraising target of £5,000.
