Former Le Rocquier student Serena Guthrie is to captain England’s 12-strong squad as it takes on teams at the global competition being held in Liverpool this summer.
The first competitor for the team, which features eight members from the group that scooped a gold medal at the Commonwealth Games, will be Uganda on 12 July.

Speaking following the team revelation this afternoon from Head Coach Tracey Neville MBE, Guthrie commented: “Being selected and asked to be captain is a proud moment for me. It’s going to be a real honour for us all to step out in front of the nation.”
It’s the latest in a series of accolades for 90-cap Guthrie and her team.
In December, the English Roses were crowned Team of the Year and achieved the Greatest Sporting Moment of 2018 Award at the BBC Sports Personality of the Year awards.
Then, just one month later in January, Guthrie secured the local title of Sports Personality of the Year following votes from thousands of islanders.
