Jersey has recorded its hottest day ever as temperatures surpassed 39°C today, breaking the Island’s previous all-time record and pushing the mercury into triple figures Fahrenheit for the first time.
Today’s temperature has eclipsed the previous record of 37.9°C, set during the heatwave of July 2022, by at least 1 °C – and is still rising.
Jersey also had its hottest June day on record earlier this week. It reached 37.2°C on Tuesday, beating the previous high of 33.4°C from 30 June 2025.
Schools across the Island are closed, and businesses have adjusted opening hours.

It comes as an intense heatwave grips large parts of Europe, with several countries experiencing temperatures well above seasonal averages and authorities issuing widespread health warnings.
In the UK, the Met Office has issued a red weather warning for extreme heat for three consecutive days.
Red warnings are extremely rare and warn of a danger to life. This is the first time a red weather warning for extreme heat has been issued for three consecutive days in the UK.
Meanwhile, France broke its all-time temperature record on Tuesday when it reached 44.3°C.
Islanders have been urged to follow advice from Public Health and check on people who may be particularly vulnerable to the heat.
