The temperature peaked at 36.4c this afternoon – setting a new weather record.

It is the highest temperature ever recorded in Guernsey, beating the previous maximum by just over 2c.

The record temperature was reached at 15:30 BST, having climbed steadily throughout the day.

The Duty Observer at Guernsey Met Officer had told Express that the forecast for today was 36c.

Exceeding that temperature, the new record beat the previous maximum which was 34.3c in August 2003.

The temperature is expected to reduce over the coming days, with 23c forecast for Friday.

These official weather records show that Guernsey has seen temperatures above 30c in five months of the year over the past seven decades.

A new record for May was set this year when the temperature reached 31.5c towards the end of the month.

June’s previous record of 30.8c was set in 1976.

34.2c was recorded in July 2022, while the 34.3c recorded in August 2003 was the highest temperature ever until today.

September’s record of 30.6c was set in 1961.
