St. Martin’s School came second, winning £600, and Grouville came third, winning £400.
All participating schools harvested their carefully grown crops on 6 July for the competition.
The wheelbarrows, which were constructed by HMP La Moye, were all on show at a West Show Association event in St. Peter on 8 July, along with the children’s displays of herbs, vegetables, fruit and flowers.
Each wheelbarrow was judged by Steve Vibert, Norah Treanor and Jill Green based on quality of the products, the presentation of the wheelbarrow and the variety of vegetables, fruit and herbs.

D’Auvergne School, Janvrin School, JC Preparatory School, Springfield School, St. Michael’s Preparatory School and St. Peter’s School all received highly commended certificates.
Graeme Le Marquand, Chairman of the local National Vegetable Society (NVS) said “We are very pleased to see a large number of schools taking part in the competition. A lot of work has gone into producing the wheelbarrow displays and, together, they make an impressive exhibit. In my opinion, this makes every school a winner.”
