The Director of LibertyBus has assured islanders that the company has robust safety protocols in place after a double-decker crashed into a building above Liberation Station – the third such incident in less than 10 years.
Assuring that the incident was “not due to a lack of training” , Kevin Hart said safety improvements had already been made following previous incidents.
An investigation is currently underway.
Similar collisions took place in March 2019 and July 2015.
Mr Hart said that changes introduced following previous incidents included route alterations as well as breaks for drivers when switching between single and double-decker buses.
“…while it’s very worrying that the double-decker hit [the building]… it is not due to a lack of training”

He also stressed that there were safety protocols in place that “physically tell the driver where they are picking up from” and that the driver involved in Monday’s incident had more than seven years’ experience driving double-decker buses.
He explained that each driver has written instructions specific to what stand they’re leaving from, and the direction they should be approached from.
“There are safety protocols in place, there is training involved of which way they approach it,” he explained.
“We do have risk assessments that say which way you need to come from. We have a lot of material in place and, while it’s very worrying that the double-decker hit [the building]… it is not due to a lack of training.”
