A 36-year-old man has been jailed for life after committing multiple sexual offences against a young child.

Aaron Roy Forsythe Gardner was sentenced in the Royal Court today for two counts of sexual penetration of a child and one count of sexual touching of a child.

He must serve a minimum of almost 14 years before his case can be reviewed by a parole board.

The offences took place over two years against a child with whom Gardner had an established relationship.

A jury unanimously found him guilty following a five-day Royal Court trial in June this year.

Detective Carla Garnier described the case as “deeply distressing”.

“The courage shown by this young victim throughout the investigation and court proceedings has been remarkable, and we also acknowledge the strength and resilience of their family,” she added.

Chief Inspector Mark Hafey said the sentence reflected the seriousness of the offences and their lasting impact upon victims and their families.

“Protecting children remains a priority for the States of Jersey Police, and we will continue to work closely with our safeguarding partners to support victims, safeguard children and pursue those responsible for these offences,” he added.
