Year 6 pupils from all the island’s primary schools are to take part in a four-day festival of sport to mark the 80th anniversary of Liberation.

The Liberation Games will feature around a dozen sports including squash, karate, cricket, rugby and netball.

Organised by the Bailiff’s Chambers, facilitated by Jersey Sport and sponsored by Butterfield, the games begin on Tuesday 29 April and will be staged at a range of venues including FB Fields, Springfield Stadium and Les Quennevais Sports Centre.

Other sports which will be included are padel, football, cycling , karate, kick-boxing and petanque.

The Bailiff, Sir Timothy Le Cocq said: “The Liberation Games aim to celebrate Jersey’s proud heritage, sense of community, and love of sport by offering children the opportunity to connect with their peers and try out a wide range of sporting activities in a spirit of fun, friendship, and island pride.”
