The Appeal was launched last week by Sir Timothy Le Cocq (pictured top) and will run until 23 December.

In the same week, the Lion’s Club of Jersey, the Jersey branch of Lions Clubs International, pledged to donate £5,000 to the Appeal, to go towards helping the loved ones of the three L’Ecume II fishermen lost when their trawler collided with a Condor freight ship last week, as well as those affected by the explosion that collapsed Haut du Mont flats.

Now, the Lions Club have received notice from Britain’s Lions Multiple District (of which the Jersey Club is part), that this sum will be matched and the total Lions’ donation will now be £10,000.

Club president Lion Steve Taylor said: “We are delighted that, living up to the worldwide ethos of serving our local communities, our national body has very promptly agreed to match the Jersey Club’s donation.”
