The Lions Club of Jersey have launched an appeal for islanders to donate used spectacles, which will then be donated to those who might need them.

Donated glasses will be sorted by Lions Club members in Jersey, then shipped to their national headquarters in Birmingham and distributed to be re-used in continents such as Asia and Africa, according to a statement by the Lions Club of Jersey.

Member of the Lions Club of Jersey publicity team, Peter Tabb said: “Where we live we tend to take having easy access to the appropriate spectacles for granted.

“But in many parts of the world, the spectacles we discard can bring about life changing benefits.

“We are very grateful to the local opticians and the members of the public who donate their ‘used’ specs to us.”

Islanders who are willing to donate unwanted spectacles can drop them at Animal Kingdom at the Barrette Commercial Centre in St. John or at 32 Halkett Place.
