A local folk-pop band has recorded a new arrangement of Jersey’s official anthem for the 80th anniversary of Liberation Day.
Badlabecques’ new cover of ‘Beautiful Jersey’ aims to blend traditional elements with contemporary sounds.
The band, which is known for its commitment to promoting Jèrriais culture, will incorporate both English and Jèrriais lyrics into the song.
The re-recording, which will be available for use at cultural events, follows a vote earlier this year by the States Assembly to officially recognise ‘Beautiful Jersey’ as the island anthem.
Badlabecques’ lead singer Kit Ashton said: “Making this new version of ‘Beautiful Jersey’ for the 80th Liberation Day is a huge honour for us.
“This song holds deep meaning for islanders, and we always wanted to give it the care deserves, ever since our Jèrriais-only version in 2012.
“We’ve aimed to create something that feels both respectful of tradition and in keeping with modern life.”
International Development Minister Carolyn Labey added: “This reimagining of ‘Beautiful Jersey’ honours our past and breathes new life into a song that resonates deeply with our community.
“As we commemorate 80 years since Liberation, this anthem will serve as a poignant reminder of Jersey’s unity.”
A traditional rendition of the song is set to be performed live at 11:30 tomorrow as part of the annual commemoration in Liberation Square.
This will follow a thanksgiving service and the re-enactment in front of the Pomme d’Or Hotel.
