“I wanted to create a relaxed and intimate environment,” says owner John Cronin Renouf, who describes his salon experience as akin to a “girly night in”.

John opened his hair lounge in February 2021, after his husband, Neil, transformed the premises from a dull office space into a spacious and bright salon.
“The carpets were blue, the walls were white, and there was fluorescent lighting everywhere. My husband changed the space in just five days!”
Stepping into the salon, you could be mistaken for thinking you’re in someone’s home thanks to the couple’s choice of décor and furniture.

“I wanted to go back to the older style of hair salons,” said John, who is now in his 43rd year of hairdressing.
Unlike modern hairdressers with rows of chairs, he said: “All the chairs have their own space, so it’s very private.
“No one can look at you through the windows as they pass on the street.”

Creating a space for women to relax, away from the daily stresses of life was at the heart of John’s business. And his customers agree that he’s achieved just that, describing the salon as a “luxurious haven” with a “lovely chilled vibe”.
“I tell them they can even bring a drink with them if they like,” he said.
John says he is excited to welcome new customers and hairdressers to the salon and is hosting a summer drinks event at his lounge this Thursday 28 July from 17:00 to 21:00.
