Runners will have the chance to head offshore during their lunch break when a trail run is staged in St Helier for the first time in four years.

The Castle Chase will take place on Friday 11 September, with two-person relay teams taking part in a dash from the coast at West Park to Elizabeth Castle and back.

Money raised from the £30 per team entry fee will go to Jersey Heritage, which manages the castle among its portfolio of Island landmarks.

Graham Thomas of Jersey Heritage said the event, last staged in 2022, offered some “low-tide, full-throttle fun” for those seeking to break up the working day with something unusual during their lunch hour.

“It’s a fantastic way to squeeze in a run to your working day while having a great time racing against your colleagues and raising money for a worthwhile cause,” he said.

“The trail takes you across sand and into the Castle grounds and back and is suitable for whatever kind of runner you are, whether that’s competitive, a fun runner or simply someone keen to raise money for our charity.”

Harrison Wood from event sponsor TMF described the Castle Chase as “an inclusive community event that brings people together through fitness, teamwork and local pride”.

The event is supported by Strive Health Club and participants will be kept hydrated by Jersey Water, with £100 Jersey Heritage vouchers available to the winning mixed duo, men’s team and women’s team.
