Dementia Friendly Guernsey is showcasing the results of a craft competition with an ‘Under the sea’ theme, which it ran for the island’s care homes.
Residents are carers submitted entries including sea creatures created from recycled household items to balloon painting.
Other artwork included models made of clay and pipe cleaners, colouring and treasure chests full of jewels and coins.
Julie Bulpitt from Dementia Friendly Guernsey said: “These competitions are a great way to engage residents and staff in meaningful cognitive activities and allowing them to include some of their own ideas, in a creative way.
“Whilst making their crafts, it is an opportunity to have conversations reminiscing about their lives, talking not only about their beach experiences, but also those who have enjoyed working on the sea.”

The displays have then been placed in communal areas around the care homes, to be enjoyed by residents and for relatives and friends to see the creative talents.
Ms Bulpitt added: “Whilst talking to some of the residents who took part, it was lovely to see their enthusiasm and pride as to what they have achieved.”
