Thanks to funding from the island’s Freemasons, children’s charity Lifelites has provided a package of assistive technology, including specially adapted iPads in drop-proof cases, which come pre-loaded with accessible games, music, art and communications apps.

The equipment, which staff will be trained to help children use, can be accessed by anyone of any ability.

“We know that every second counts for these children and their families, so all the Lifelites-donated technology is mobile or portable which means it can reach every child, wherever they are in the hospice – even if they can’t get out of bed – as well as in the children’s own homes,” explained Lifelites CEO Simone Enefer-Doy.

Thanking Lifelites, Jersey Hospice CEO Mike Palfreman added: “Access to this kind of equipment is a huge benefit to the children we are supporting, and it gives our staff the chance to work more closely with the children and understand their needs that much better. The children that we are working with will get a lot of joy from using this technology.”

Jersey’s Freemasons have supported Lifelites projects in Jersey for many years, and have recently become the charity’s first Platinum Partner as a result.

Lifelites has only been able to donate this package of technology for the children of Jersey Hospice Care as well as Oakwell thanks to the ongoing generous donations from the Jersey Freemasons. The Provincial Grand Lodge of Jersey has supported Lifelites projects for the children of Jersey for many years and have recently become Lifelites’ very first Platinum Partner – due to their long-term commitment to Lifelites’ work for children on the island.

Provincial Grand Master Graham Spence said that seeing Lifelites’ “truly amazing” technology in use and “the life-enhancing opportunities that it gives the children… truly touches the heart.”

“We can confidently look forward to many years of being a Platinum Partner in this joint venture,” he added.
