Jersey’s government has declared a ‘major incident’ from 7pm on Thursday evening – when the strongest winds of Storm Goretti are due to hit the Island.

It has told Islanders to only dial 999 or visit A&E with a genuine emergency.

The default position is that schools will open as normal on Friday morning; however, individuals schools will be making early assessments of property, therefore parents are asked to check social media and media channels from 7am. 

A ‘red’ wind warning has been issued by the Met Office, with peak winds forecast between 7pm and 3am.
