Louis Jouault had been trying to overtake the vehicle in front of him on Route de la Haule.
The incident happened at 14:00 on 20 July.
St. Brelade Centenier Amanda Wright told the Magistrate’s Court that Jouault had pulled out of his lane in order to overtake the car in front but found there was a cyclist in front of it and no space for him.
He was unable to pull back into his own lane and had to continue on the wrong side – driving on the right past a traffic island that bore a large ‘Keep left’ sign.
Jouault said: “I’m sorry. The traffic was moving very slowly and I was late for a doctor’s appointment.”
No one was injured in the incident.
He was fined £800 for careless driving.
