A 30-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of grave and criminal assault after a “prolonged” assault took place in town last night.

Police are appealing for information about the alleged assault, which left a 42-year-old man in hospital with “serious injuries”.

It was said to have taken place in various locations in St Helier town centre on Thursday 31 July.

Officers are seeking witnesses who may have seen any incidents involving a white male in his 20s with a stocky build, wearing white/light-coloured trousers and a grey T-shirt with short brown hair, and a white male in his 40s with a slim build, wearing a black jumper, dark, slim-fit jeans and brown shoes with white soles, with short dark hair.

Police are particularly interested to hear from members of the public in the Royal Square between 23:10 and 23:30, and on Burrard Street from 23:30 until 23:55.

The force is also appealing specifically to a man who is believed to have seen a part of the alleged assault on Burrard Street, outside the Elizabeth Howell shop, at 23:41.

This man is believed to have been wearing pink shorts and a grey sleeveless sports top with a cap.
