A 23-year-old man has been sentenced by the Royal Court for his involvement in a drug importation case linked to arrivals from Spain.

Curtis Aubert was arrested in February 2024, alongside 39-year-old Oliver Lucas and 60-year-old Evert Smallegange in the car park at Jersey Airport.

Smallegange had just arrived on the island from Spain and was met by the two men.

Customs officers discovered that Smallegange had internally concealed 199 pellets of cannabis, weighing a total of one kilogram, which he had swallowed.

Lucas and Smallegange have already been sentenced in connection with the case. Lucas received a community service order, while Smallegange was jailed for ten months.

Aubert initially denied the charges and also faced additional offences relating to drugs found at his home and failing to provide the PIN for his mobile phone.

After spending two months on custodial remand, Aubert was today sentenced to 330 hours of community service and a one-year probation order.

Customs & Immigration senior manager Luke Goddard said: “This case shows that criminal syndicates go to significant lengths to attempt to import illicit drugs and that JCIS is well equipped to target them and convict them for the parts they play.”
