After Breast Cancer’s Mardi Bra event replaced its long-running Bra Dash, Chairperson Cheryl Raphael told the Express, which she said too many people associated with having to run. The charity hoped to raise £5,000 on Friday, which will be put toward efforts to raise local awareness of breast care.
The charity was formed in 1999 as a support group by two local women who had suffered from breast cancer. Its role has since expanded, to offer hope, support and friendship to women at any stage of breast cancer.
Ms Raphael said response on the streets was “fantastic.”
“Considering the weather, people were so supportive and very generous,” she said.
Committee members were supported by staff from Lloyd’s Bank on the drizzly streets outside the bank’s Broad Street branch. “We wanted to have a festival feel,” Ms Raphael said. “So we were dancing and shaking.”
Among the energetic volunteers was Jo Gregory (pictured) resplendent in towering sequin boots and her pink novelty bra.
