The islander – who was suspected missing after he left his home address on Friday 8 September – was located just before 02:00 this morning on La Route des Hêtres by a police officer on patrol.

Police extended their thanks to the public for searching in their gardens, sheds and out-houses, and to those who checked their CCTV and called in with information.

Police officers, drones, helicopters and search dogs had all been involved in the search for Mr Romeril.

The 48-year-old left his home address in St John at around 08:30 on Friday 8 September.

He was subsequently seen on CCTV in town, and police later confirmed that he was buying camping equipment.

Pictured: Mr Romeril’s vehicle, a black Kia Sportage, was located at Noirmont Point at around 14:00 on Friday.

Mr Romeril purchased a green tent, a black and blue sleeping bag, a grey Eurohike rucksack and a blue foam sleeping mat from Blacks in King Street.

He was seen again on CCTV at B&Q buying an orange bucket and a grey tarpaulin at around 09:45 on Friday morning.

His vehicle, a black Kia Sportage, was located at Noirmont Point at around 14:00 on Friday.
