The parish deals with constant complaints from residents about school parking. The primary is currently full with around 500 pupils, most who live in the catchment of Grouville as well as parts of Gorey village in St Martin. But with no parking facilities on site, parents are left with no alternative but to find alternative places close-by to leave their cars.
Constable Le Maistre says that at school pick-up as many as 120 cars are parked haphazardly on the roads surrounding the school, many parked illegally and dangerously on corners. Children and parents are often left having to cross a busy main road to get to school.
He wants the Ministers for Education, Sport and Culture, Transport and Technical Services, Planning and Environment and Treasury and Resources to work together and come up with a parking provision for at least 60 cars in addition to the existing 35 spaces outside the school which are currently used by the teaching staff.
Constable Le Maistre wants to see the work completed within nine months of his proposition being adopted.
