A new Italian eatery is set to open in the Central Market next month at the former home of La Bouche – which has closed its doors after six years in business.

Tavola, a European restaurant founded by Jersey-born hospitality professionals Tommy Radiguet and Bruno Santos-Costa, will open in early June.

The new eatery will offer handmade pasta, pizzettas, freshly baked breads, and a mix of classic and contemporary dishes in what the duo described as a “simple and laid-back” setting.

Tavola will be open six days a week for breakfast, brunch, and lunch.

The restaurant will also serve dinner on Friday and Saturday evenings to tie in with the market’s late-night openings.

A ten-seat curved bar will be available for walk-in customers at the venue’s central lot location at the former home of La Bouche, which closed its doors last month after six years in business.

Tommy – who was previously head chef at Samphire and has worked in kitchens across the Channel Islands and the UK – said Tavola represents a fresh chapter where he can use skills gained throughout his career.

“We want Tavola to be a modern European experience,” he explained.

“Whether it’s a speciality coffee, a glass of wine or a long boozy dinner, everyone is welcome.”

He added that the restaurant is a completely new project and separate from his former role at Samphire.

Bruno, owner of The Watchmaker wine bar on Halkett Place, brings decades of experience managing restaurants in London and Jersey.

The pair explained that they had been planning a joint venture for some time – but were waiting for the right location to become available.

“We’ve always loved the Central Market – we grew up with it,” said Tommy.

“It’s such an iconic place, and we look forward to seeing how it will evolve over the next few years.”
