A young islander has donated his “precious” hair to create wigs for children with cancer – whilst also raising money for a heart charity in memory of his uncle.
Rani Olayan-Eva cut his hair last month as part of a charity fundraiser.
The nine-year-old donated his “long lush” locks to the Little Princess Trust, a charity that helps young people who have lost their hair due to cancer treatment or other conditions.

The Rouge Bouillon pupil also raised £1,350 for the British Heart Foundation in the process.
Rani’s mother Nadine explained that he chose the charity in memory of his uncle Dave, who passed away two years ago due to an undetected heart condition.
Dave had open heart surgery before his 40th birthday, but passed away in 2023 at the age of 52 from a sudden heart attack.
Rani was just six at the time.
“Even at that young age it affected him massively,” explained Nadine.
She added that “it wasn’t hard to choose” which charity to raise funds for.
“The British Heart Foundation has helped halve the number of people dying from heart and circulatory disease in the UK but sadly every day hundreds of people lose their lives,” she said.
Alfie from KSG Barbershop in Bath Street donated his time to cut Rani’s hair.
Nadine said: “Those who know Rani know how precious his long lush hair is to him, so imagine how proud we are that he has made the decision to donate his hair and raise money for charity.”

She explained that it has always been Rani’s wish to send his locks to the Little Princess Trust when he was ready to cut them.
“It’s for kids with cancer who have lost their hair,” said Rani.
He added: “It feels nice to be kind.”
