Jono Le Blancq spotted a bronze statue of a couple embracing at the Jersey Hospice shop in St. Ouen on Saturday, the morning after a photo of Mr Hancock embracing his aide Gina Coladangelo had been published by the Sun newspaper.

He then posted it to the 181,000-member ‘Crap You Find in Charity Shops’ Facebook group, with the caption: ‘Hancock in Brass £30, Hospice shop Jersey’.

The post has received more than 6,400 Likes but it has also been picked up by international media from Asia to South America.

A musician, who is lead singer and co-songwriter of the band, the Cryptics, Mr Le Blancq told Express: “I’m currently making a music video so was looking for a costume at the Hospice Shop. I’d only just heard the news about Matt Hancock so it was fresh in my mind.

“I love the ‘Crap You Find in Charity Shops’ group, and I simply took a picture, thought up a quick caption and posted it.

“I didn’t think anything of it, but it then went ballistic.”

Mr Le Blancq was soon contacted by a journalist from a news agency, who then wrote a story and syndicated it out to news websites around the world.

UK-based site Deadline News wrote: “A CHARITY SHOPPER has spotted a brass sculpture that looks like it was based on Matt Hancock’s steamy clinch with his aide.

“Jono Le Blancq was stopped in his tracks when he spotted the uncanny resemblance at the Hospice Shop in Jersey in the Channel Islands on Saturday.”

Mr Le Blancq said he had since Googled his name and was amazed how far the story had spread.

Pictured: The Hancock-style statue was found in Hospice’s St. Ouen shop – one of the “golden triangle” of charity shops, according to Mr Le Blancq.

“It’s reached a fairly weird audience, if I’m honest, being picked up in French Polynesia, Guyana, Bangladesh and Iceland. I’d be surprised if many people there know who Matt Hancock is.

“Some sites must have put the original text into a translator because some of the copy is hilarious.”

Website Germany News, for instance, reported: “A LOVE DEALER has seen a copper image that appears to be based on Matt Hancock’s steam clinic with his assistant.

“Jono Le Blancq was stopped in his tracks when he noticed the strange agreement on Saturday in the Hospice Shop in Jersey on the Channel Islands.”

Mr Le Blancq added: “I regularly use charity shops, most often visiting the ‘golden triangle’ of Hospice, Acorn and Durrell.

“As well as costumes, I’m often looking for LPs to use on my ‘Replicate the Cover Stance’ Facebook page
