Islanders won’t have to leave the comfort of their homes to shop for a good cause, thanks to Jersey Hospice Care’s first-ever online charity shop.

The palliative care charity has launched a new eBay store in a bid to boost income and connect with supporters beyond Jersey.

Online shoppers can expect to find a wide selection of donated goods – including clothing, accessories, books and music.

Many of the items have been handpicked from donations received across the island’s hospice shops, with particular interest in collectables, which have proven especially popular online.

Among the items currently listed are a Brunello Cucinelli jacket for £360, a Greggio Italy caviar set with a starting price of £240, a Christian Dior vintage hat originally listed for £180, and a pair of Prada trainers with an opening price of £185.

The initiative brings the charity in line with UK organisations such as British Red Cross and Oxfam, which have operated eBay shops for several years.

Jersey Hospice Care head of retail Marcus Meadows said: “This is a fantastic opportunity to increase our reach and explore new and innovative ways to grow revenue from our shops.

“We’re seeing collectables perform particularly well, so we would encourage anyone with unusual or interesting items to consider donating them – you never know what hidden gems could help raise vital funds for our hospice care.”

Money raised through the online shop will go directly towards supporting the charity’s work in Jersey, including providing specialist palliative care and support to patients and their families.

Islanders can continue to donate items at any of the Jersey Hospice Care charity shops, where staff and volunteers will be able to advise on goods that may be suitable for online sale.
