A long-closed grocery store and newsagents in Roseville Street has received planning permission to change its use from retail to residential.
The former One Stop Shop, which is towards the sea end of the road, closed its doors more than eight years ago and has recently changed ownership.
The previous owner had attempted on several occasions to find a commercial tenant without success.
The application states that the new owners wish to make a “substantial investment” in the property to make sure it meets all the current housing standards.
In approving the change of use, Planning said: “The proposed works involve the conversion of the existing shop into a living area, and the creation of a store room adjacent to a utility room.
“The existing glazed entrance door and frontage will be retained, and the external canopy will be removed.
“As such, it is considered that the internal alterations would not have an adverse impact on the character of the surrounding area.”
