Islanders are being urged to feed geese only at St Aubin’s Harbour after birds were found straying “more frequently” into traffic-heavy areas in search of food.

In a recent social media post, St Brelade Honorary Police shared a humorous picture of a goose behind bars “wanted for evading arrest”.

“The suspect in the attached photo made a speedy escape taking flight on two occasions when the Duty Centenier attempted to intervene,” the post said.

The goose’s crime was “suspicion of jaywalking outside Morrisons in St Aubin” as well as “potential further charges of loitering with intent and demanding grain with menaces”.

But “on a more serious note”, the honorary police force said there is a problem of birds coming up from the harbour “more frequently” in search of food where traffic is a risk.

“They are a well-known and popular presence around the harbour, and we would not want them coming to harm,” it added.

“In the interests of road safety, could anyone feeding them please do so only in the harbour area or on the slipway, well clear of traffic.”
