It’s not been confirmed when the power problem happened, or why – States IT engineers said that critical systems were being restored just before 10:30.

The power loss took down the main States website, gov.je, as well as the Jersey Airport site and the Harbours site – making it more difficult for passengers to keep a track of travel disruption – as well as meaning the Ambulance service is now relying on back-up systems.

The States posted a tweet this morning saying the IT issues are causing problems across many government systems this morning, but they will have power restored as soon as possible.

That was updated just before 10:30, as services began to be restored.

The power loss comes at a bad time for the emergency services who are already under pressure dealing with incidents caused by the bad weather – the wind is expected to reach gale force 9 for the second day in a row. Islanders are being urged to dial 999 only if it is a genuine emergency. Firefighters have been dealing with problems caused by flooding and fallen trees.
