Around 50 trees were recently planted on the roundabout between Communicare and the entrance to the Les Quennevais sports centre, as part of a project to plant 500 trees in the area to ‘rewild’ the island.

St. George’s Prep took part in the exercise on Thursday and Friday, with the help of the Government’s Parks and Gardens Department, who sourced the trees and oversaw the planting.

But a number of trees have already been uprooted and damaged.

St. Brelade Constable Mike Jackson said: “It is sad that there are those who chose to vandalise these trees, especially as we have a climate emergency and this is an effort by school children to mitigate that. Hopefully the people who did this will be aware that it is not appreciated in the slighest.

“Fortunately, the Parks team have already replace the damaged and broken trees so the project is back on track.

“The Honorary Police will be keeping a close eye on the roundabout and I know the Youth Service team based at Communicare are also looking out. We want to stop this mindless vandalism happening again.”
