From seagull posties to flying pigs, Jersey’s jokers were busy taking imagination to new heights this April Fools’ Day. Here’s our round-up of some of the best pranks spotted across the island on 1 April… how many did you spot before realising they weren’t quite real?
GullMail
Yesterday, Jersey Post unveiled “GullMail” – a new delivery service powered entirely by the island’s seagulls.
Promising faster coastal drop-offs and a fully sustainable, breadcrumb-based rewards system, the scheme aims to cut emissions while making the most of Jersey’s most irritating residents.
Customers are assured of reliable delivery times, though the company admitted service may be briefly interrupted in the event of nearby chips.
Op Royals
States of Jersey Police revealed details of a top-secret operation yesterday, confirming officers had been deployed to safeguard one of the island’s most prized seasonal assets – the first outdoor Jersey Royals.
Dubbed “Op Royals”, the mission has reportedly been running quietly underground, culminating in a carefully co-ordinated escort to ensure the potatoes reached their destination without incident.
Police say the crop is now safe and accounted for, and took the opportunity to wish islanders a safe and enjoyable Easter weekend.
Parish priority…
Ports of Jersey announced a local twist on air travel yesterday, unveiling a new boarding system at Jersey Airport.
Ditching seat numbers entirely, passengers will now be called to board by parish, with islanders asked to listen carefully for their home turf before heading to the gate.
Proof of residency may be required, while visitors will be assigned a “temporary parish” on arrival, in what officials described as “a more local way to take off.”
Spa day… every day…
Jersey College for Girls announced a radical shake-up yesterday, revealing plans to replace its science department with a fully fledged wellbeing retreat: the Barton Spa.
Set to open imminently, the new facility promises everything from a hydro-therapy homework pool – where students can float through assignments to the sound of whale music – to corridors infused with calming scents like “Chemistry Camomile” and “Biology Basil Breeze”.
Pupils will also be able to unwind at a “Periodic Table Mud Mask Bar”, while loyalty cards reward “exceptional relaxation” with priority access to a geothermally powered Volcano Jacuzzi.
The college says the move will place it at the forefront of “curriculum-aligned tranquillity,” though some students are reportedly still hoping at least a little science survives the transition.
SeaGPT
RNLI Jersey made waves yesterday with the launch of “SeaGPT” – an AI-powered dashboard designed to predict incidents before they even happen.
Promising to keep crews “one step ahead”, the system flags everything from ambitious kayakers heading for France “just for a croissant” to rogue inflatable flamingoes drifting towards Normandy.
The charity says it could be the future of lifesaving – though islanders are warned their next beach trip might already be on the schedule.
Under cover…
The Jersey Evening Post reported on ambitious plans yesterday to install a giant retractable roof over St Brelade’s Bay in a bid to guarantee year-round sunshine.
The proposal, part of a new “Weather-Proof Tourism Strategy”, would see a vast transparent canopy stretch across the entire bay, complete with climate controls, artificial sunshine, and even a curated “sunset mode” for evening visitors.
Early designs reportedly included ambient seaside soundtracks and optional decorative clouds “for aesthetic balance”.
Costs remain undisclosed, though islanders were promised a chance to have their say when a public consultation opens – conveniently on 1 April.

When pigs fly…
Me & The Farmer Farm Shop reached new heights this April Fools’ Day, unveiling what it claims is a brand new breed: the Jersey Flying Pig.
After “years of careful breeding – and a little farmyard magic”, the team say the animals boast impressive airborne potential, alongside their more traditional talents, such as rapid snack detection and expert mud navigation.
Early signs of wing development have reportedly been spotted, with take-off expected “any day now”, though customers are warned stock may be limited once they quite literally fly off the shelves.
Step up your selfie game
This April Fools, electric vehicle company EVie has put its best foot forward with the launch of EVie Feet+, a premium service for users who consistently feature their feet in verification selfies.
The subscription promises faster approvals, priority bookings, and exclusive “toe-ken” rewards, giving devotees of digit-focused selfies the recognition they apparently deserve.
EVie says it’s “a step in the right direction,” though early adopters are reportedly still wondering whether they should walk, tiptoe, or just stand firmly while snapping their profile shots.
From roads to runways with LibertyBus
This April Fools’ Day, LibertyBus was aiming a little higher than usual with the launch of LibertyFlight™, a new partnership with Ports of Jersey that quite literally takes its services to the skies.
The upgraded offering promises the same familiar experience – friendly drivers, reliable routes, and the ever-satisfying ding of the stop bell – just at cruising altitude.
Passengers can also expect priority seating near the wings and a continuation of the long-standing policy of requesting stops, though timing may prove slightly more critical than usual.
