A group run is due to take place this week to raise awareness of the barriers women may face when trying to exercise during the winter months.

Jersey Spartan Athletic Club’s weekly 5km run will highlight the national ‘Let’s Lift the Curfew’ campaign on Tuesday 28 October.

Launched by Sport England and promoted by England Athletics in collaboration with This Girl Can, the initiative aims to promote a safer environment for women to engage in physical activities and exercise.

Many women experience an “unwanted curfew” when trying to exercise during the winter months due to safety concerns after dark, according to the campaign.

The Jersey Spartan Athletic Club run is free to attend and will take place on Tuesday from 18:30 at West Park.

Attendees are encouraged to wear as much high-visibility clothing as possible in recognition of the cause – with a prize on offer for the brightest outfit.

Children aged 15 and under must have a parent or guardian present for the duration of the run.

Islanders can sign up or find out more information about the event here.
