With the summer holidays flying by, Jersey parents are already facing one of the biggest expenses of the year – the back-to-school shop…

Ahead of the new term, a local charity has announced the launch of an initiative aiming to reduce the costs of school uniforms in partnership with a major high-street retailer.

Autism Jersey is working with Marks and Spencer on a scheme allowing families to buy good quality used school uniforms at a reduced price.

The initiative, which began this week, invites islanders to donate their old but still wearable school uniforms to the Autism Jersey store at the Parade in return for a 10% off voucher which can be used at the M&S King Street store.

“Autism Jersey “delighted” with partnership

“We are delighted to be able to work with the team at M&S Jersey to support those with school age children and help make their money go a little further in the current financial climate,” Lesley Harrison, Head of Charitable Services at Autism Jersey, said.

“We’re also delighted this scheme will be supporting our ethical and environmental values through the recycling of pre-loved clothing through our Autism Jersey Boutique.”

Donated uniforms will be processed by volunteers for the charity who will check that all donated stock is in clean and in good condition.

Making uniforms more “accessible and affordable”

Caroline Slowey-Dickinson, Managing Director M&S Jersey, added: “We are excited to partner with Autism Jersey again on this inspiring initiative, which reflects our ongoing commitment to supporting local charities, children, and the environment.

“This scheme not only promotes sustainability through recycling but also makes school uniforms more accessible and affordable for families across our island. We encourage everyone to get involved and help make a meaningful difference—together, we can turn simple actions into lasting impact”.

GET INVOLVED…

Parents are asked to donate the uniforms to the Autism Jersey boutique by 14 August and use the 10% off new school uniform vouchers at M&S King Street by 26 September.

All donated uniforms must be clean, well presented and in good condition.
