The Parish of St Mary says it is on course for a 20% turnout, with a similar story across the other parishes. There are 64,365 potential voters, and turnout in the last Senatorial by-election was around 26% in 2010. An hour ago, St John reported a turnout of just 13% and St Peter 14%.

The post came up after Senator Zoe Cameron quit the States in frustration in July. She claimed she’d been cold shouldered by the Council of Ministers and felt she wasn’t being listened to.

The first results are expected very shortly.

The candidates are:

  • Alvin Aaron
  • Guy de Faye
  • Mike Dun
  • Sarah Ferguson
  • Nick Le Cornu
  • Christian May
  • Sam Mezec
  • Stevie Ocean
  • Mary O’Keeffe-Burgher
  • Hugh Raymond
  • John Young

Whoever is elected will see out former Senator Cameron’s term of office which expires in spring 2018.
