Short films showing “complicated relationship” between humans and nature to screen at farming festival

A local film festival is partnering with this weekend’s upcoming farming festival to show short films about agriculture, nature and the countryside.

The 13th Parish Film Festival has agreed to takeover Regen Gathering Jersey’s main stage at Le Tâcheron Farm on Friday 11 September to show seven short films.

Úna Langlois, Festival Co-Director of the 13th Parish Film Festival, said: “This is a playful look at out complicated relationship with nature, animals, the land and each other through the diverse genres of animation, fiction and experimental short films.

“This collection of films has something to say about interconnection, building community and sustainability – and quite a lot to say about not getting into competition with nature. As a film festival, we are delighted to work with all communities on Island and it’s a joy to present this programme at Regen.”

The screenings will take place from 6:30 on the first day of the festival. Now in its fourth year, Regen is expecting to welcome 2,000 visitors over its 2 days.

There is a programme of around 70 sessions with 50 speakers, sharing knowledge and expertise on farming, gardening and growing your own food.

This is the first time that Regen will be hosting a film screening at Regen Gathering.

Bruce Labey, press relations for the 13th Parish Film Festival, said: “We are really excited about working with our good friends at the Regen Gathering this year and are very grateful for the precious time slot on the main stage.

“Hopefully this will mean we can spread the word about short films, some of the most innovative and imaginative films being made today.

“I remember seeing ‘The Herd’ by Irish Director Ken Wardrop a few years ago at one of our first film festivals in the Jersey Arts Centre and it is still one of my all-time favourites – a really magical film that kids will love as much as adults.

“We are screening two of Ken’s films this year, shot on his family farm over one weekend; just the kind of creativity that we’re trying to foster at the festival.”
