The latest figures show the Island needs another 760 homes to meet demand until 2018.
The report from the States Statistics Unit, based on results from a survey of our housing needs, shows there’s likely to be a surplus in one and two bedroomed flats and big houses and there could be a large shortfall in smaller houses and flats with three or more bedrooms.
The figures show we’ll need another 240 flats with three or more bedrooms and 1,140 two bedroomed homes but according to feedback from last year’s Annual Social Survey there’s going to be enough social housing to meet Islanders’ needs.
Almost three-quarters of the total potential demand is likely to come from us wanting to move house but the stats show the other 25% will likely be new people coming to the Island mainly on the hunt for one bedroom flats.
