The Island’s Met department says the next couple of days will be the coldest this week and there’s a yellow warning for ice although temperatures are nothing compared to the UK where people are bracing themselves for a spell of severe cold weather.
The Met says they are forecasting freezing temperatures and have issued an amber warning for almost the whole of England – the second level below a “national emergency”.
Duty Forecaster Sharon Merrin said Islanders should take care in places where there is running water on the roads which may have frozen but says the temperature should reach 6 today and is forecasting it to climb to 8 by the end of the week.
The States of Jersey Police published a warning last night urging caution, saying: “We have been advised that the air temperature will drop to close to zero this evening, during the lengthy clear periods that are expected hoar frost may develop causing icy patches on the roads over night and in the morning. We would like to advise motorists on both four and two wheels to take care whilst out and maybe set off your journey an extra five minutes earlier than you normally would and get to your destination safe and well.”
